After 22 years of solo projects, the world’s favourite rapper-DJ duo Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff (once known in their 90s heyday as DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince) are about to embark on a highly anticipated collaborative venture this upcoming festival season.
Via an out-of-the-blue Facebook announcement on his page, Will Smith dropped the news that him and DJ Jazzy Jeff would be reuniting for two enormous shows taking place over the summer. MTV Summer Blast in Croatia and Livewire Festival in Blackpool, UK, locked in by the booking agent of the hip-hop favourites, mark the beginning of shows set to rock audiences around the world. With huge anthems such as ‘Summertime’, ‘Boom Shake the Room’, ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ and ‘Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble’, loyal fans of the pioneering artists have a summer to look forward to!
Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff kick-started their unique collaboration back in 1985, bringing to their music a flavour of vibrancy and charisma which propelled them into the mainstream. With a Grammy for Best Rap Performance under their belt, the duo brought their infectious personalities to iconic TV sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’, proving their talent knows no bounds.
Following the TV show, Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff went on to pursue solo ventures: Will balancing his rapping career with newfound Hollywood stardom and Jazzy Jeff becoming a titan in the world of music production with his own ‘A Touch of Jazz’ imprint.
With Will starring in Hollywood blockbusters in everything from Men in Black (for which he also provided the soundtrack), to his Academy Award winning performance in ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’, music steadily tapered to a halt due to filming priorities. Meanwhile, Jazzy Jeff honed his craft both behind the decks and in the studio, collaborating with an array of music legends from Mac Miller to Jill Scott with productions – still finding the time to tour the world with his highly revered DJ sets.
With the pair now returning to their first love of music, Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith’s booking agency is now looking to accept offers for any potential shows worldwide. The excitement is not only felt by their dedicated fans, but also by the artists themselves as they perform together after a long 22 years apart.
