HOUSTON -- A man arrested for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend and killing her dog went before a Harris County judge Wednesday morning.
Adam Lemus, 29, was charged with aggravated assault, animal cruelty and criminal mischief after the incident on November 30.
Police say he broke into his ex-girlfriend's Katy apartment, slit her Chihuahua’s throat and ransacked the place. When the woman returned home, Lemus allegedly assaulted her before fleeing.
He was later arrested by Precinct 5 deputies.
The judge denied bond on the assault charge and set bond at $100,000 for the animal cruelty charge.
Investigators believe Lemus, who used the alias Jose Juan Ramirez, may be in the country illegally. They are still investigating that allegation.
