Rapper and New Orleans resident Juvenile was arrested on marijuana charges Thursday afternoon in St. Bernard Parish.
Steve Cannizzaro, of the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office, said someone on Livingston Avenue in Arabi smelled marijuana smoke at a neighbor's house and called police at about 3 p.m.
Leroy Edwards, producer for Juvenile, answered the door and a cloud of smoke came rushing out, Cannizzaro said. Police said they found a small amount of marijuana on Edwards and he was handcuffed and questioned.
Cannizzaro said Edwards wouldn't cooperate, so police obtained a warrant to search the home. When they did, Cannizzaro said they found half an ounce of marijuana in the kitchen.
Juvenile, whose real name is Terius Gray, claimed the marijuana was his, Cannizzaro said, and both he and Edwards were arrested sometime after 6 p.m. They have since posted bond.
The house in which they were arrested belongs to a friend of the 34-year-old rapper, Cannizzaro said. Juvenile told police that he was using the house to record his new CD. Police said they found recording equipment in the home.
Several other people were in the home at the time of the arrests.
Juvenile was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Cannizzaro said neither Juvenile nor Edwards was expected to stay in jail overnight.
