Rapper Rick Ross is embroiled in controversy over an alleged fake pair of Louis Vuitton glasses he wore on the latest cover of XXL magazine.
"We were dismayed to see the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine, which features a photo of Rick Ross wearing a pair of sunglasses prominently featuring counterfeit Louis Vuitton trademarks," Louis Vuitton's Michael D. Pantalony wrote in a public letter to Ross and XXL.
The company is trying to crack down on counterfeit products, and Pantalony used the letter to bring up three points.
"Louis Vuitton did not grant permission to Mr. Ross or whoever did make the sunglasses to use our trademarks. The second is that no affiliation, sponsorship or association exists between Rick Ross or XXL and Louis Vuitton. The third is that counterfeiting is illegal."
Jacob Bernstein, better known as "The Sunglasses Pimp," told AllHipHop.com that the glasses are the real deal and he just customized them.
"It's the same thing as buying a Rolls Royce and having it tricked out; just because the product has been customized by me doesn't take away from the fact that the frames are authentic Louis Vuitton Millionaires," he said.
Bernstein has customized glasses for Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Usher and others.
This isn't the first time Ross has been called out for wearing allegedly fake bling. Tia Kemp, his baby's mama, said in an interview with 50 Cent that Ross' "jewelry is rented, possibly not real. His cars are being leased. It's just sad. I just want to prove the facts."
One of course has to take that with a grain of salt, considering that Ross and Fiddy hate each other.
Ross released his third album, Deeper Than Rap, last month.
