On tonight’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart took an artistic approach to dealing with Fox News’ substantial coverage of the controversy surrounding the White House’s inclusion of rapper and actor, Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. better known as Common, in a poetry event hosted by the 1st lady, Michelle Obama.
Stewart kicked things off by noting that Common is the cuddly, mainstream sort of rapper you might find in a Gap ad or hanging out with Elmo. Even FoxNews.com loves the guy! Stewart WENT IN on Fox News hosts like Sean Hannity for focusing on one particular verse within Common’s body of work which references a cop killings and burning a “Bush.”
Stewart pointed to the hypocrisy of Fox News for going after Common, but not going after artists like Johnny Cash, who was honored by President George W. Bush and who also has penned a violent lyric or two in his day. Nor did Hannity go after Ted Nugent, who has made violent remarks about Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Hannity considered Ted Nugent a “friend.”
When it was all said and done — Common still performed at the White House — thanks Fox News for wasting our time once again. 🙂
