According to the Dallas Morning News, the hip-hop group has been confirmed to play the halftime show at Super Bowl XLV in Dallas this February.
Though the NFL has yet to comment on the rumors, the report cites a source close to the league as confirming the selection on Wednesday.
The Peas would be the first hip-hop act to play the big event since Janet Jackson’s infamous set with Justin Timberlake in 2004, in which part of her corset was removed to reveal her left breast on national TV.
Since then, classic rock acts such as Paul McCartney (2005), Bruce Springsteen (2009) and, most recently, The Who, have played the halftime show during the Super Bowl. The music selections were widely believed to be a conservative reaction by the NFL to Jackson’s scandalous “wardrobe malfunction.”
The Black Eyed Peas would certainly be a logical choice to play the halftime show: their last album, 2009’s “The E.N.D.,” produced the Number One hits “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling.”
