Why did Angie Martinez leave Hot 97? …it’s the question everyone wants to know.
The news of Angie leaving Hot 97 for Power, is like saying Funkmaster Flex is leaving Hot 97 to join Power 105.1… no one could ever picture this happening. Because just like Flex, Angie Martinez helped build Hot 97.
Angie leaving Hot 97 for Power 105.1 has the same feeling of LeBron leaving Cleveland for Miami, Hulk Hogan leaving WWE to start the NWO at WCW! …Angie didn’t give her listeners a two weeks notice or nothing.
Angie Martinez abruptly announced she was resigning from Hot 97 yesterday (June 18).
She offered the following message on her Instagram:
Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show stay tuned…. Love, angie
The above “good-bye” message still doesn’t answer, “Why did Angie Martinez leave Hot 97?”
Angie interviewed just about everyone in the past 20 years, from Tupac to this generation’s superstar Drake. She spent the better part of 25 years with the radio station.
So, what would cause Angie Martinez to go over to Power 105.1 of all stations?
Angie’s switch to Power 105.1 is a slap in the face to Hot 97. Although we must say, Angie has always remained neutral… not involving herself in the beef and feuds between the two stations. And we all know, business is business — Hot 97 was only her employer. But, where is the loyalty. Hot 97 was literally her family. Was it money? Did Hot 97 take Angie for granted? Did she feel disrespected at some point? There so many unanswered questions.
Angie Martinez will be doing the afternoon show at Power 105.1, just as she did over at Hot 97 for so many years. This allows her to take all of her loyal followers and listeners with her.
