The Haitian community is coming for DJ Cipha Sounds of Hot 97! Check out this video, The Haitian Community Protest AGAINST DJ Cipha Sounds In Front of Hot 97. *this scene is all too familiar for Hot 97*
The Haitian community has been dissed once again! This time in the form of an ignorant comment made by a DJ by the name of Cipher Sounds. His real name is Louis Diaz and he works for the popular New York City, Hip-Hop radio station Hot 97. The statements were said during the Friday morning show, which usually known for it’s often off the wall, risqué, and flippant humor. The statement was immediately criticized and resulted in outrage from the Haitian community.
In the bitter cold, a press conference was held right outside of the Hot 97 studios in Manhattan. Movers and shakers of New York’s Haitian community, as well as supporters and other Haitian organizations were present asking for nothing less than the resignation of Cipher Sounds despite an apology which he made not too long after the statement was made.
A follow-up meeting has been scheduled to discuss next steps, and take concrete action in asking Hot 97 that Cipher Sounds be removed. This entire incident is very ironic, as it came from the same radio station that surprised everyone with a very tasteful tribute to Haitian music right after the the earthquake in January.
